The Indiana Sailing Association kicked off the 2012 sailing season with participants from East Chicago High School Cardinal Sailing, Purdue University Calumet Veterans, and new Indiana Sailing Association coaches at the East Chicago Marina.

The special day of activities began with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources providing a special presentation by two of the region’s conservation officers focusing on safety and boating laws relating to Lake Michigan.

Also taking place was the mast raising and launching of two of the Indiana Sailing Association’s Soling sailboats, specially designed matched racing boats originally designed for Olympic class sail races.

The Indiana Sailing Association is a registered non-profit organization providing youth sailing training. The launch of the boats and all programming provided by the association throughout the sailing season to engage youth and provide sailing experiences is made possible through a variety of partnerships and agencies in East Chicago including the City, Marina, and the Foundations of East Chicago.
