The East Chicago Marina was the site of the annual City of East Chicago Fireworks Celebration July 3rd and Children from St. Joseph’s Carmelite Home in East Chicago were able to enjoy the festivities with the assistance from the Indiana Sailing Association volunteers and the Indiana Harbor Yacht Club. This year more than 28 total children participated in the activities.

The Indiana Harbor Yacht Club donated the use of their fenced, grassy picnic area located behind Club. Snacks and interactive games, including the annual favorite tug-of-war, were provided by the volunteers of the Indiana Sailing Association. Older children had the opportunity to tour the marina and tour some of the sailboats maintained by the Indiana Sailing Association and used for youth sail training.

Sister Maria of the Carmelite Home works tirelessly each year with volunteers from the Indiana Sailing Association to help make this annual event possible. Additionally, Sister Maria works with Indiana Sailing Association to include some of the children in her car to participate in the sailing activities of the association at various time during the sailing months.
